Personal Space

Why is it that some people don't understand the rules of standing in a line?

I've come up with some rules I think most people will consider common sense. Unfortunately, others are oblivious to them.

1.) When standing in a line make sure you are at an arms length distance from the person in front of you.

2.) If you attempt to talk to the person in front of you and they seem uninterested in anything you have to say, stop talking to that person.

3.) If the line is not moving you may question it's slow pace only once. After that, accept it and be patient, or get out of the line.

4.) Once again, if the line is not moving and you can't see what is going on, DO NOT repeatedly stand on your tippy toes to try and see over everyones heads. And if you must stand on your tippy toes, please continue to obey rules 1-3 while doing so.

5.) No cuts!

Hopefully this post will reach more than just my six loyal readers. If not, and you are in a situation where someone breaks any or all of these rules, please explain proper standing in line etiquette to them.

Well I disagree about #6. You should be able to complain about a line as long as it does not move.

Um, #3.

I violate all these rules, mostly to try to get people to blog about me. It must be working.

Just kidding. I'll spread the word though.

obviously people who believe in number 4 are not short and often confused for an open spot in a crowd. multiple tippy-toings are a must if you don't want to be trampled.

Anonymous #1 - but if you're complaining to the person in front of you, they won't be able to tell you what's going on, so what's the point?

Cofo - It must have been you I was standing in front of the other day then! No, wait, it was an old lady . . . perhaps it was your girlfriend.

Cadiz- If you continue to stand on your tippy toes do you suddenly understand why the line isn't moving?

All I'm saying is that the line will move when it moves.

Children are the worst offenders of #1.
